Love the horse first.
Sport second.

Horsemanship is a journey, not a destination. Our lessons bring together groundwork, thoughtful riding, and an understanding of the horse—helping students build confidence and skills from the ground up.

Horsemanship Lesson Program

At our farm, we are building horsemen.

Horsemanship requires consistency, work ethic, and commitment—from both riders and families.

Our program focuses on a solid foundation for horse and rider, with skills that carry into any discipline. We develop confident, well-balanced riders who communicate through quiet, respectful cues. Learning to understand the horse and make thoughtful decisions is part of staying safe.

Personally, alongside horsemanship, Jessica loves western performance—think cattle work, trail rides, rodeos, and the occasional speed show!

What you’ll learn

We teach from the ground up. Students learn to understand and care for horses as well as ride them.

  • Grooming and daily care
  • Horse behavior and safety
  • Groundwork and connection
  • Riding with thoughtful horsemanship, clear communication, balance, and confidence

All lessons are age-appropriate and designed to build confident, capable horsemen and horsewomen.

Dress code

  • Closed-toe shoes and long pants are required.
  • Clothing should be practical and appropriate: no crop tops, low-cut shirts, or spaghetti straps.
  • ASTM helmets are required for all riders under 18. We can provide helmets.
Lesson schedule

Make room for steady progress.

Regular lessons run Monday through Thursday. Jessica will do her best to accommodate your preferences while balancing horse workload and the needs of the full program.

Weekends are available on occasion, with more weekend lessons during the winter.

Attendance & commitment

Consistency builds confidence.

Progress in horsemanship takes the same commitment as any other sport or extracurricular activity. Consistent lessons build confidence, safety, and real skill while helping our horses maintain a healthy, predictable workload.

Showing & event readiness

Preparation comes before the show pen.

We attend a few events each year. Showing and off-property outings on our horses are privileges earned through preparation and commitment.

To attend a show or off-property event on one of our horses, riders must commit to two rides per week for eight consecutive weeks before the event.

This requirement does not apply if you are using your own horse.

This preparation supports rider confidence, horse fitness, mental readiness, and a positive experience for everyone involved. We do not enter the show pen casually.

Barn culture & opportunity

Grit, character, and heart.

At this farm, hard work matters. We value students who care about the horses as much as they care about riding.

Show up with initiative.

  • Volunteer to help
  • Ask what needs to be done
  • Put in effort beyond your scheduled ride
  • Show responsibility and initiative
  • Care for the horses as much as you care about riding

Grow through opportunity.

Students who demonstrate these qualities will be given the first opportunity for:

  • Off-farm events, including shows and trail rides
  • Clinics
  • Special rides
  • Unique learning experiences

We are raising great horsemen—not just sitting-pretty riders.

Meet Jessica

The heart behind
Rockin M Ranch.

Hi, I’m Jessica, the heart behind Rockin M Ranch! Horses have been part of my life since I was three, and I began taking lessons at eight. From beginner camp lessons to hunter/jumper, I’ve explored many disciplines, but my heart lies in cow horse sports. I’ve had the privilege of learning from many wonderful instructors and clinicians. Through it all, one belief has stayed with me: horsemanship is a journey, not a destination. There is always more to learn and room to become better for our horses.

My passion is developing a horse that is featherlight and responsive—one that can “turn on a dime and give you a nickel change,” all on an easy rein. Just as importantly, I want to help riders build the knowledge, feel, and confidence to eventually develop that partnership themselves. I want to create horsemen, not just passengers.

My teaching is thorough and detailed because I want my students to understand the why behind what we do. Our time together goes beyond riding: we learn how horses think, how to care for them, how to communicate clearly, and how to stay safe while enjoying these magnificent animals.

This program is for people who are curious, passionate, and eager to grow. Whether you’re brand new to horses or building on years of experience, my goal is to help you explore everything they have to offer—with patience, purpose, and a commitment to putting the horse first and the sport second.
